Nerine

Fothergilli Major

  • 30-50cm

  • Full Sun to Part Shade

Stunningly beautiful reddy-orange petals with a golden shimmer

Each stem has up to 20 florets. Quite a spectacular garden addition that shows when there isn’t much around. It makes a great cut flower if you can bear to take it from the garden.

These easily grown “Diamond Lilies” are a magnificent show in mid Autumn and a great cut flower. They prefer a sunny, well drained position. Under the eaves of the house is ideal. Established clumps can be left undisturbed for years. Nerines need a light well drained soil of average fertility with not too much nitrogen. Place the bulbs in a sunny position with the shoulder of the bulbs showing above the ground. Space approximately 8-10 cm apart in bold clumps or ribbon borders. To grow longer stems, 50% shade will help draw them out.

Nerine blooms as a cluster of flowers on a leafless stem. Each flower is trumpet-shaped with recurved petals. Nerines are the perfect cut flower.

Nerines like to be hot and dry - they do best in full Sun, in sandy, very well drained soil.

Nerines should be planted as soon as you receive them.
