Introducing Purple Passion Asparagus
These regally coloured stringless beauties are bursting with a bright, sweet taste and crisp texture (with 20% more natural sugars than usual). They're perfect raw in salads as a garnish, as the spears are so tender you can eat them right out of your garden.
When cooked, the flavors of Purple Passion Asparagus are mild, nutty, and familiar. But when eaten raw, they're a revelation! Just a quick blanch will preserve their vibrant color and unique flavor, inspiring you to experiment with new, inspiring culinary creations.
Purple Passion Asparagus stands out with its significantly lower lignin (woody fiber) content, making the spears less stringy. This unique feature not only enhances the eating experience but also minimizes waste, allowing you to use the entire spear without discarding the bottom.
So, if you're excited to experience these culinary delights, don't wait! Get your hands on Purple Passion Asparagus before they all end up in my garden!
Growing Purple Passion Asparagus
- Select a nice and sunny permanent position, ensuring that all grass, roots, Oxalis, etc., are completely removed. We don't want the Asparagus to compete with weeds.
- To ensure good drainage, the bed should be raised 10-12cm above the surrounding garden.
- Before planting, work in some compost, well-rotted manure, or a good dressing of blood and bone fertilizer.
- To plant the crowns, open up a 15 cm wide trench 7-8 cm deep and place crowns 45 cm apart with roots spread out in star fashion. Replace the soil covering the crowns. Keep your rows 60-80 cm apart.
