Nerine
Flugel
Nerine 'Flügel' is simply outstanding. An exciting new addition, its blooms boast a vibrant pink hue - quite possibly the most dazzling shade of pink out there. Plus, when the buds start to unfurl, they reveal a deep red tone, creating a stunning dual-colour effect. Held up proudly on sturdy stems of bright green, these flowerheads were specially chosen for their bold colouring, charming shape, and superb garden performance. Not to mention, Nerine bowdenii 'Flügel' is a hot choice among florists as a top-notch cut flower.
These easily grown “Diamond Lilies” are a magnificent show in mid Autumn and a great cut flower. They prefer a sunny, well drained position. Under the eaves of the house is ideal. Established clumps can be left undisturbed for years. Nerines need a light well drained soil of average fertility with not too much nitrogen. Place the bulbs in a sunny position with the shoulder of the bulbs showing above the ground. Space approximately 8-10 cm apart in bold clumps or ribbon borders. To grow longer stems, 50% shade will help draw them out.
Nerine blooms as a cluster of flowers on a leafless stem. Each flower is trumpet-shaped with recurved petals. Nerines are the perfect cut flower.
Nerines like to be hot and dry - they do best in full Sun, in sandy, very well drained soil.
