Hyacinth ‘Delft Blue’ is one of the most popular blue hyacinths, loved for its rich colour, dense flower spikes, and strong, sweet fragrance. Introduced in 1944, it has been a reliable favourite in spring gardens for decades and it still earns its place in pots and borders every year.

Hyacinths are the very essence of spring. Their beautifully scented blooms are a welcome sight after winter, and they are easy to grow in containers or planted in groups through the garden for maximum impact.

Planting and care

  • Position: full sun in a well-drained spot (raise beds if soil is heavy or wet)

  • Planting depth: 8 to 10 cm

  • Spacing: 8 to 10 cm apart

  • After flowering: remove old flower spikes, but leave the foliage until it dies back naturally to feed the bulb for next season

Hyacinth bulbs are easily grown in pots, or in the garden – their delightful scent heralds that Spring has finally arrived!

Plant in a Sunny, well drained position – raise the beds if the soil is heavy or wet, and place the bulbs 8-10cm apart, 8-10cm deep.
