Ixia
Yellow Giant
Ixia Bulbs are another South African Native, and are amongst the showiest of Spring flowering plants.
They flower profusely on wiry, 80-100cm stems, creating an incredible display.
Select a drier, sunny position, with good drainage – plant in well worked soil, 4-5cm deep and 6-8cm apart.
Ixia Bulbs are perfect for New Zealand’s hot climates, but can be grown in most areas if planted under roof overhangs to restrict water, while still allowing the full sun conditions.
Ixia’s should be planted in sheltered areas of the garden to avoid the flowers toppling over.
