Shallots - Big Red
These lovely tasting Shallots are fantastic for pickling and garnishing your favourite meat dishes and roasts etc. Shallots have a distinct onion based flavour though not as strong and are used a lot in salads and for bottling. They can be used in replace of an onion in most dishes.
- Big Red Shallots are an indispensable staple in French cuisine
- Mid-sized, and very tasty shallot
- Very tolerant and can be grown in acidic soil down to 5.0 pH, but prefers 6.0-6.8 pH
- Plant in fertile, well-drained soil
Shallots are very quick to multiply and can be planted by pressing into well worked soil until half the bulb is showing above the ground.
