Hyacinth
Aqua
Hyacinth ‘Aqua’ is a beautiful newer introduction with blooms that open mid-blue, then gradually fade and blend into softer blue tones with a hint of white as the flower spike develops. The colour shift gives a softer, more layered look in pots and garden beds.
Hyacinths are the very essence of spring, producing dense, strongly scented flower spikes that are a welcome sight after winter. ‘Aqua’ is easy to grow in containers or the garden, and it is ideal for borders, patio pots, and planting in groups for maximum impact.
When to plant (NZ)
For best results, plant March to April, especially in warmer districts where a cooler position can help bulbs perform well.
Planting and care
-
Position: sunny spot with well-drained soil (raise beds if soil is heavy or wet)
-
Planting depth: 8 to 10 cm
-
Spacing: 8 to 10 cm apart
-
After flowering: remove spent flower spikes, but leave the foliage until it dies back naturally to feed the bulb for next season
Hyacinth bulbs are easily grown in pots, or in the garden – their delightful scent heralds that Spring has finally arrived!
Plant in a Sunny, well drained position – raise the beds if the soil is heavy or wet, and place the bulbs 8-10cm apart, 8-10cm deep.
